Having too many users in too many places

June26

Don’t know if it’s your case, but I’m subscribed to hundreds of services and things. This of course represents hundreds of users and passwords.

Every time I forget my login info, I have to run back to my little tin box of secrets hidden behind a brick some where in my emails.
If it’s happened to you, then you know what an epic waste of time it can be. It doesn’t matter where you keep them, it still is an inconvenient waste of time.

And having the same password for everything doesn’t really help either.

And don’t even get me started on the nightmare of re signing everything in each time I clear my browser’s cache.

How do I keep track of all passwords and usernames?
How do you do it? is there a service I can register in? (and hopefully I’ll forget the password to it)

Well, apparently there are a number of choices out there both online and desktop. As in everything else, choosing the right one for you involves a bit of shopping around and of course, word of mouth recommendation.

I did shop around a little and found these candidates that I liked. But wait, I haven’t made up my mind yet. I’m still on the test drive stage.

So here’s what I’ve got:

Last Pass

Logaway

Clipperz

PassPack

1Password

KeePass

Sxipper

Clearly I didn’t mean this post to be a review. Instead I was hoping you would share with us your thoughts on these tools.

So how do you deal with the password dilemma?

Firefox does this by default. I have all my passwords stored here. After a browser cache refresh, they still work. You can export/import them as well by using some plugin called: “password exporter”.

Your security code is much too hard to read. If users have an color deficiency they will not be able to comment at all.

Wow! I had no idea! Thanks for sharing this. And thanks for pointing out the security code thingy.
    Cheers
